Lucuma

Origin and Characteristics:

It is a native Peruvian fruit tree which pulp is agreeable and very nourishing, rich in vitamin C, vitamin B complex, proteins, calcium, phosphorus and low in calories.

Lucuma is a small round fruit about 10 cm. in diameter, dark green very nice aroma, their food is fresh bright yellow, mealy in texture and has a small dark brown pit.

It is a native Peruvian fruit present in the myths and legends of Andean origin. It was part of the diet of ancient Peruvians, who was depicted in their pottery and textiles. Lucuma is an ancient crop, having found remains of 7,500 BC in the town of Chilca, south of Lima.

It is located in the valleys of Peru to the 3,000 m. Their weight ranges from 100 gr. and more than 1 kg. Its flesh is nice and very nutritious, rich in vitamin C, vitamin B complex, protein, calcium, phosphorus and low in calories.

Physalis peruviana (physalis = bladder) is the plant and its fruit, also known as cape gooseberry (South Africa), Inca berry, golden berry, Peruvian cherry (U.S.), aguaymanto (Peru), uvilla (Ecuador), uchuva (Colombia), and other.

The Goldenberry is one of the few non-native fresh fruits available around the world over hundreds of years as an exotic fruit.

The fruit, which is bright yellow and extremely sweet when ripe, When the fruit is dehydrated obtein a very rich, sweet and acid flavor. In this form it’s easily mixed into cereal, yogurt mixes, fruit salads, green salads, trail and nut mixes or on its own as a dried fruit snack.

Camu Camu

Origin and Characteristics:

It is a native Amazon Peruvian fruit that grows wild in the alluvial soils that are flooded during the rainy season. It is found mainly along the Ucayali and Amazon rivers.

The main characteristic of the fruit is its high content of ascorbic acid. Camu Camu contains more vitamin C than any known fruit on the planet. The vitamin C content between 1.800 and 2.780 mg. per 100 grams camu camu pulp. Compared to oranges, camu camu provides 30 times more vitamin C, 10 times more iron, 3 times more niacin, twice as much riboflavin, and fifty percent more phosphorus.

Uses:

The camu camu is used in Industry Food in the preparation of juices, nectars, yogurt, jam and ice cream.
In the pharmaceutical tablets and capsules are made of camu camu as the source of vitamin C.

Graviola

Origin and Characteristics:

The Graviola is native of the tropical jungle of Peru and Brazil. It is known for his anticarcinogenic action and for his antibacterial properties.

Annona muricata is a fruit native to the rainforest of Peru and Brazil. Graviola properties have been studied not only in the treatment of cancer but also in other diseases, as well as the benefits of the leaves, bark and seeds well as flowers and fruits have been shown to possess properties for the treatment of various health disorders.

According to the latest research on the alkaloids present in the bark, leaves and seeds of this tree, they possess a cytotoxic effect, which can be used to treat various cancers turn without attacking healthy cells.

Consequently, graviola alkaloids would be particularly useful against pancreatic cancer, lung and prostate, according to analysis performed in the United States, more specifically at Purdue University, Indiana.
